The good news is that Real estate agents are required to use the high tech battery powered lock boxes on their listings. These are pretty secure and in my opinion it would be harder to crack this lock box than it would be to just break into the house.
Whenever the keys are accessed to a showing agent, the listing agent receives confirmation of who/what/where and when the home is shown. These lock boxes are definitely more high tech, more expensive and more secure than many of the combination lock boxes that were used on homes a few years ago. The combination lock boxes were left sometimes with the default combination that came on the box.
Anyway....... Back to the story.
These high tech lock boxes are to be placed on the property in a spot with that is secure, easily spotted and accessible to a showing agent. A very common spot would be a doorknob, metal railing or gas meter.
